"I can't exactly remember when I wrote my first real piano tune, but if I had to guess, it was sometime around my mid-twenties. The tune was a little two-chord pattern that repeated itself over and over again, and which later developed into the tune titled "No One" found in Part III of the series. I was an amateur musician back then. A hobbyist who just couldn't get enough of this amazing instrument.

Fast-forward to my early 40s, mid-pandemic, when I sat down one night to play. Just another typical evening for me, until it wasn't. I felt the first tune come from somewhere deep within. I kept at it until it was finished and for many nights after, I sat and more kept coming and coming. 

 

I had always wanted to compose songs, but never really set out to do it. It's kind of amazing what we're all capable of creating if we just take the plunge and keep at it, day after day. 

 

Eventually, I composed the 52 pieces that became the Roy's Piano Tunes series. I have enjoyed playing them immensely and they have no doubt helped me become a better pianist and performer.
